£1 million Green Industry Plast - Togo (Lomé, Togo)

This solution consists of setting up collection units and sorting facilities for plastic waste in Togo’s major cities, in collaboration with the local authorities. The purpose of this is to collect and recover plastic waste for recycling purposes, so as to reduce their pollution of the natural environment. The conversion machinery makes it possible to fabricate bricks, paving slabs, whiteboards for schools, and other plastic items. In this way, women who are destitute and abandoned in their homes, and young people who have dropped out of school, are recruited and trained in the sorting and re-use of waste materials. School children and households also benefit from environmental education, and their town is equipped with bins for the selective sorting of refuse. The organisation also arranges for the cleaning of beaches, and creates mass awareness of environmental issues.

Chanja Datti’s solution is a technology driven in-house end-to-end process for plastics waste recycling by purchasing directly from our waste aggregators and waste pickers, who are some of society’s most marginalized people. The organisation operates a series of recycling hubs across Abuja and Northern Nigeria where they transact with waste aggregators directly to purchase their collected plastic for onward transfer to their world-class aggregation, processing and manufacturing plant. Here, the collected plastics are processed and sold as post-consumer recycled plastics to plastics manufacturers for use by large bottle-to-bottle manufacturing companies.

Mega Gas cooktop

Mega Gas converts unsorted plastic waste into clean and affordable cooking gas through a patented process. The company’s main objective is to convert unsorted waste polythene/plastics that litter the environment into clean gaseous fuel through a thermal cracking process of distillation and compression that creates no emissions, residue, or pollution to the environment. The fuel is harvested into metal cylinders for easy use and handling.
